The university is owned by Ottawa's Learnsoft Corp., but will be based in New Brunswick because the province does not regulate private universities. It's slated for listing on the Alberta Stock Exchange in early December, with plans for a Nasdaq listing in 12 to 18 months.
It says it will be the world's first degree-granting, private Internet university, and says it will focus on the older students who don't like the traditional way to get a degree. Some classes are set to start in January.
Learnsoft Corp., which hopes to raise $1.3 million through an initial public offering with shares priced at 20 cents, will use the proceeds to promote the school and develop more training software.
The school's first program, an executive Masters of Business Administration that begins in January, costs $25,000 in tuition. It has cost $1.5 million to launch the school, which received about $600,000 in government funding.
