Local entrepreneurs now have a step-by-step approach to securing financing thanks to a new book by the Ottawa Economic Development Corporation.
Called the Financing Handbook, the made-in-Ottawa book is a guide to help growing companies understand Canadian financial markets and obtain elusive funding dollars.
The book was developed in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and received financial support from Human Resources Development Canada.
It features tips and advice from local venture capitalists, angel investors and other representatives from the financial and banking communities.
"This guide builds on the enormous success of our Entrepreneur's Handbook and provides more detailed information about financing basics and sources of capital. The handbook is based on numerous inquiries on financing received at OED's Entrepreneurship Centre," said Gisele Larocque, OED's director of entrepreneur and business development.
"In our experience, obtaining financing is one of the biggest challenges faced by entrepreneurs trying to start or grow their business ideas. By combining the shared advice and expertise from leading local market financiers, the Financing Handbook provides entrepreneurs with the knowledge to help overcome this challenge," said Brad Jeffers of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP's management and consulting services division.
The handbook is available from the Entrepreneurship Centre for $19.95. Copies can be order by calling 560-6081+1 or e-mailing entcent@oed.on.ca.
