The seminar is aimed at the professionals responsible for their corporations' globalization strategies. It will discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with globalization and how globalization can enhance a corporation's overall business operation. The seminar will also deal with issues related to going global online.
The seminar will take place on Friday, May 29, at the Telus Centre on the University of Alberta Campus.
"With Edmonton hosting the 2001 World Games, it makes sense for Edmonton-based companies to be prepared for growth in international business," Oscar A. Jofre Jr., CEO of IO-TEK, said in a release.
According to Global Reach, the online dominance of the English language is
declining. Only 48.9 per cent of users in September 2000 were native English speakers. Forecasts are predicting that 70 per cent of the projected billion people who will be using the Web in 2005 will not speak English as their native tongue.
"We are very excited in hosting this seminar with IO-TEK, a company that understands the issues around language and culture. This seminar is geared towards all Edmonton-based businesses as well as those interested in expanding their international markets year-round," said Karen Link, manager of industry services for Edmonton Tourism.
