In a statement, the bureau said that CanWest has entered into negotiations to end its partnership with the Globe and Mail to jointly run the channel. Meanwhile, the company has agreed to place its stake in the channel in trust, pending the outcome of the talks.
The bureau said in a release that it had concerns over the channel's ownership arrangement because it linked the country's two national daily newspapers.
The issue over ROB-TV's ownership became cloudy after CanWest bought most of Hollinger's media holdings in Canada, including a 50% stake in the Globe's chief competitor, The National Post.
On Oct. 30, the company received CRTC approval to increase its stake in the channel.
The fate of the channel became more complex, after the Globe agreed to a merger which would see the paper rolled into a larger company with BCE and CTV.
